The small girl in back

Knew she was right

For that was the time

She was brave enough

To raise her hand

And give her quiet answer

And then

As you showered her with the spark in your eyes

She felt it

As the first kiss of light to hit her face

Bathing her forehead

As it baptized

That thought that had come

Right out of her brilliant mind

It was here

In your class

She learned to value her worth

Not in inches

Not in letters

Not in pounds

Instead you taught her

To measure herself

With a straight ruler of Love

And then as you

She could spend her sweet life

Just to give.
