After School

The favorite part of my day

Comes in the first moments

As he leaves his classroom

Backpack, unmatched shoe laces,

Grinning ear to ear

With a story

Filled with giggles

And a question

But I think it is his eyes that stir the most

He is still young

And his look at me

Is a look as though

He were a newborn at the breast.

I loved sharing this experience with you this morning!

One of the reasons I keep coming back to your blog is how much your words and expressions of your experiences resonate with me. I love reading your work as a rule anyway, but every once in a while you really hit upon something particularly well, and it just sends me….lol

Your description of your observations of this young person reminded me immediately of my recollections of my own son’s way of carrying himself when he was a young person. The enthusiasm and sense of wonder in the eyes of a young child, particularly when they have a loving or caring connection to us, is one of the best medicines for any ailment of the heart that I know.

My son is still very enthusiastic and still delights me when I see him, and I know that his love is a gift of immeasurable value, that I never take for granted, and which lives within me every moment.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I just didn’t think clicking “like” would really say what I felt, because i just LOVED this one.

    Warm regards……John H.
