Sadie’s Morning Chore

Their kitchen was warm

With the comfort

Of buttered toast

And with the sweet jingle

Of easy words

That always came with mornings

Sadie felt glorious already

So after the kids left for school

She just ran to sit in silence

Back at that holy kitchen table

Then,

When Sadie was good and ready

To open her eyes again–

When those windows dazzled green

With sparks of her joy–

It was in this moment

That she always

Picked up her pen

(And in that most sacred act of her day

Sadie wrote one perfect, radiant thought).
